Sound affects the speed of visual processing.

چکیده
The authors examined the effects of a task-irrelevant sound on visual processing. Participants were presented with revolving clocks at or around central fixation and reported the hand position of a target clock at the time an exogenous cue (1 clock turning red) or an endogenous cue (a line pointing toward 1 of the clocks) was presented. A spatially irrelevant sound presented 100 ms before the cue speeded visual latency when compared with a sound presented 100 ms after the cue. The effect of the sound was larger the farther the target was from fixation, and it was larger for endogenous than exogenous cues. A visual temporal warning signal had different effects on perceptual latency. These results demonstrate that an asynchronous sound can shift the perceived time of occurrence of a visual cue (temporal ventriloquism) and speed the velocity of the attentional shift toward the target. Sounds thus have multiple effects on visual perception.

Vision affects how fast we hear sounds move.
There is a growing body of knowledge about the behavioral and neural correlates of cross-modal interactions in the perception of motion direction, as well as about the computations that underlie unimodal visual speed processing. Yet, the multisensory contributions to the perception of motion speed remain largely uncharted. Here we show that visual motion information exerts a profound influence ...

Background and Purpose: Learning disorder is one of the common disorders in students, which can lead to the occurrence of educational problems and secondary disorders in them. Based on psychopathological criteria, dyscalculia is one of the subcategories of learning disorder. Children with this disorder have problems in perception of spatial relations and in different cognitive abilities. Theref...

The human auditory cortex is the gateway to the most powerful and complex communication systems and yet relatively little is known about its functional organization as compared to the visual system. Several lines of evidence, predominantly from recent studies, indicate that sound recognition and sound localization are processed in two at least partially independent networks. Evidence from human...

متن کاملA new generalized model for predict speed of sound of refrigerants
In consideration of physical and chemical properties of pure substances, speed of sound is one of important quantity which can used to calculate many of other thermo-physical properties such as isothermal compressibility, Joule-Thomson coefficient, isobaric heat capacity and etc. These thermo-physical properties are the main parameters in industrial and chemical processes. Development of accura...
